Bishops Cleeve maintain their ‘Good’ Ofsted rating!

"Strong working relationships between staff and parents and carers ensure pupils come to school safe, happy and ready to learn".  A powerful opening remark on Bishops Cleeve Primary Academy’s latest OFSTED report.

Last month, Headteacher Shona Swan and her team welcomed inspectors with open arms, keen to showcase their ‘calm and orderly environment’ during the short inspection.

When children join in Reception, they “are shown how to get along with others. Children quickly gain the skills needed to make friends and work together successfully”. Children in every year group; “know how to create a healthy relationship and how to be physically and mentally healthy.

“Where the curriculum is taught as intended, the quality of pupils’ learning is high”.  Deep-dives were conducted in early reading, maths and art and design.  “Pupils’ love of reading is nurtured right from the start.  Pupils’ reading books match pupils' phonic knowledge precisely. Pupils’ reading fluency and comprehension are well developed”.

In terms of SEND provision; “Frequent checks on pupils’ learning help the school to identify and rectify gaps in pupils’ knowledge promptly. Pupils' special educational needs and/ or disabilities (SEND) are identified accurately. Appropriate support is put in place swiftly”.

As a member of a multi-academy trust, the benefits of shared expertise is often highlighted during inspections; “The school's approach to behaviour support is informed by research and evidence-based classroom practice from across the trust. The school uses its analysis of behaviour information to create bespoke packages of support for pupils in need of additional help”.

Shona Swan, proud Headteacher states;

I am so proud of what has been achieved here at Bishop's Cleeve Primary Academy. Our focus on 'be the best you can be' has meant that every child is championed to succeed in their own way. This report has recognised the high expectations and aspirations our staff have for every child.

Also present at the inspection, Claire Savory, GLA CEO adds;

Bishops Cleeve Primary Academy had a short inspection over 2 days whereby the inspectors started with the presumption that the school is still good, which it is! This is a fantastic school where children come to school safe, happy and ready to learn. The children’s love of reading is nurtured right from the start and well-being has a high profile. The staff work so hard to deliver a high quality curriculum with enrichment opportunities for all. We are so proud of the team for this very good report.
